How to Organize a Home Office

Clutter have you down? Don’t know where you’ve sent that story, or how long it’s been out there? How do you set up a work space and keep track of your manuscripts? And what about all your research notes?

In the first half of this interactive class, Kimn shows several successful ideas and resources, sharing systems that work for her. The second half of class is reserved to address specific organizational or recordkeeping problems of class attendees. Beginning writers come to learn about recordkeeping and tracking systems, while established writers come because they want better ways to organize research notes and get their paper clutter under control.

Kimn appeared on KOMO-TV’s "Northwest Afternoon" to talk about clutter control, and her article on home office organization appeared in The Christian Author, which later was chosen to be included in the Beginning Writer’s Packets offered by NCWA.

Exploring the Internet Jungle

Which online service is best--and is there a difference? How does all this Internet stuff work, anyhow? Can you really save time researching online, and how do you do it? What are the hot spots for writers? Can you really make any money?

Geared for writers who want to know answers to these questions, Kimn covers the above points and provides a list of online sites of interest to Christian writers, including a list of paying markets. Conferees are encouraged to ask questions or share insights throughout the class time.

Kimn’s articles comparing online services have appeared in Writer’s Connection,
The Christian Communicator, and the WIN-Informer. She’s taught on this topic at the Oregon Christian Writers Conference, Seattle Pacific University’s Christian Writers Conference, on various panels and at NCWA meetings.

Web Page Basics

Do you want to design your own web page? Come find out how in Kimn's easy-to-understand introductory class! Learn the ten basic commands in HTML (hypertext mark-up language), what hypertext is and how you can use it, and how to add graphics to your site. Each attendee will receive a handout with these tips, as well as Internet addresses to access free shareware graphics to put pizzazz in a web page.

Kimn is a member of The HTML Writer's Guild and the Association of Christian Web Authors. Her background includes professional experience as a graphic designer and desktop publisher. She taught herself HTML and applied these skills in designing this web site. In the process, she discovered simple tricks that anyone can use in creating their very own web site, which she shares in this class.

Starting a Critique Group . . . and
Why You Need One

Can’t find a critique group? Maybe you’re not convinced you need one. Kimn found herself nominated to head up one of CompuServe’s first Christian online critique groups, and later, she helped start one in her local neighborhood where she continues to serve as the group's lead coordinator.

Come find out how you can do the same; what the rules are; and the Top Ten Things you’ll never forget from being involved in a critique group!

Writing for Performance

After winning First Place in an international ventriloquist competition in 1980, Kimn wrote and performed comedy for twelve years as a gospel ventriloquist in the greater Seattle area. During that time she entertained thousands of people of all ages, and appeared in a local television promo for Child Evangelism Fellowship. First offered at the Oregon Christian Writers Conference, Kimn shares her experience on how to develop a program or puppet script from start to finish by building on a theme; she answers questions about sound equipment, music, and lighting; and a big bonus for attendees is the Guest Appearance by her ventriloquial dummy, RONNIE SMITH.
